Senior Night for Lacrosse Versus Longwood

CLINTON, S.C. – The Big South Championship picture is beginning to take shape as the Presbyterian College lacrosse team looks to take another step in the right direction, hoping to follow a huge victory earlier in the week with a similar result against Longwood tomorrow.

Opening draw at Bailey Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 5:00 on Saturday, as PC aims to beat the Lancers for the second straight season. It is the penultimate home match of 2026, which signals Senior Night.

Kayleigh Aitken, Brooklyn Shepard-Wheelon, Melissa Mucollari, Alyssa Perez, Avery West, and Olivia Ballard will all be recognized in a pregame ceremony for their invaluable contributions to Blue Hose lacrosse.

ESPN+ will be streaming tomorrow's tussle, as both PC and Longwood display the same conference record with four Big South games still ahead.

Presbyterian prevailed over Gardner-Webb in double-overtime 48 hours ago, looking to push for their first postseason berth since 2016.

SCOUTING THE LANCERS

- Longwood is also feeling the effects of a close contest in their most recent appearance, although they were on the losing end of a 13-11 bout against Furman. The Lancers were shut out in the 4th quarter as they let an 11-9 lead fall by the wayside.

- Dwayne Hicks is in the thick of his second season as Longwood's full-time head coach after being promoted in 2024, winning a single non-conference meeting against Old Dominion and also managing a 10-7 triumph over Winthrop.

- It's been a tough April for the Lancers so far, as they were blown out by High Point 25-4 prior to the Furman loss. PC edged them in Virginia 12 months ago thanks to a game-winning goal from Emma Claire Mills with one second on the clock.

- Sophomore Madison Rogers is one of three players in the Big South who has scored at least once in every game that they've played in. Presby's own Alyssa Perez is another, as is Mercer's Caroline Glus.

LAST TIME OUT

- One of the most exciting Blue Hose wins in recent memory, head coach Eric Clakeley's crew came back from an 8-5 fourth-quarter hole to stun Gardner-Webb in double-overtime.

- Madeleine Lowrance fired in the game-tying goal with less than two minutes left in regulation, setting up Emily Currie (who finished with a game-high five scores) to deliver the winning blow less than a minute into the second OT.

- It was only the second double-overtime game in Presbyterian's history, and the first since a 2016 contest against Stetson. PC did not allow the Runnin' Bulldogs to post a single shot in the full five-and-a-half minutes after regulation.

- Currie has now produced nine goals in the last two games, while Aitken played the final 39 minutes and conceded just three makes. West caused havoc on the defensive end as per usual, forcing four turnovers.

SENIOR NIGHT

- Below is a comprehensive list of each PC senior that will be recognized on Saturday and their career accomplishments:

  • Aitken has made 29 starts for the Blue Hose over the span of three seasons, surpassing 1,500 minutes and stacking up 220 saves. She is responsible for eight wins since joining the program in 2024, adding 75 ground balls recoveries as well. In a road match at Winthrop last season, the Canadian turned in a career-best 21 saves which was the second-most of any Division I goalie over that entire campaign.

  • Shepard-Wheelon's role on the PC defense has grown with each passing year, participating in 36 matches and making 19 starts. The Tennessee native has caused six turnovers with 12 ground balls pickups.

  • Mucollari is the longest-tenured senior on Clakeley's roster, a fifth-year player who has bounced back smoothly from a season-ending injury last year. Overall, the Florida native has played in 43 games (22 starts), winning 11 draw controls and causing seven takeaways. She scored her first career goal in a victory at Delaware State during her sophomore stint in 2023.

  • Perez, while currently nursing an ankle injury, has enjoyed her best collegiate season as a senior: 23 goals, 34 on-target shots, and seven makes in a free-position opportunity. The New Yorker has made 13 starts in three years at PC, resulting in 42 total points (38 goals, four assists). She witnessed a career-high six goals during a dominant win at Delaware State back in March, and she has seen 12 multi-goal efforts during her time in Clinton.

  • West is one of the most accomplished defensive players in Presbyterian's entire history, a two-time All-Big South selection who ranks second in the Blue Hose record book with 111 caused turnovers. She is also sitting at fourth place in the PC annals with 125 ground balls. Her 35 caused turnovers last season were 21st in the nation, and she is currently 13th nationally as a senior with 2.5 takeaways per game. The Texan has missed just two games in her entire college career out of 63 opportunities, landing two personal-bests against Wofford last year by going for seven caused turnovers and eight ground balls. She has been named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week twice overall, while adding six goals and 16 draws to her individual stat line.

  • Ballard has never not started in three seasons under Clakeley's tutelage, suiting up in 40 games and posting 22 caused turnovers. The New York product has scooped 31 ground balls and has also wrangled in four draw controls.
