HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Tristan McGregor tossed a scoreless top half of the first, Presbyterian jumped on the Eagles to start the game. James Green led off with a hit-by-pitch. Following a throwing error by Winthrop, Matthew Rollison singled through the right side to score Green. A walk by Emory Guilford right after loaded the bases for Holden Baker, who drew a walk to put PC up 2-0.
- Winthrop answered with two runs on four hits in the top of the second to tie the game.
- In the bottom of the frame, Presbyterian answered with a run of its own. Cam Mallo singled and moved to second base after an Andrew Albertus walk. A sacrifice bunt by Green moved the runners before Bo Moody brought around Mallo with a sacrifice fly RBI.
- The Eagles homered to knot the game up at three in the top of the third. However, PC got the lead right back in the bottom of the inning, plating two runs. Caden Mason singled home Amman Dewberry to retake the lead. Two batters later, Albertus came through with an RBI single up the middle to put PC ahead 5-3.
- The Eagles responded again in the fourth, tallying two runs to even the contest.
- The Presbyterian bats stayed hot in the bottom of the fourth, answering with three runs to once again retake the lead. Emory Guilford plated PC's first run of the inning on an RBI single. Following a run on a wild pitch, Baker crushed a double off the wall to right center, bringing home Dewberry to give PC an 8-5 advantage.
- Both offenses finally went quiet in the middle of the game until the eighth inning. Winthrop pulled ahead of the Blue Hose in the eighth with five runs on four hits.
- Down two in the bottom of the frame, the Blue Hose showed their resiliency by responding again. Albertus tied the game with a two-RBI single, scoring Mikah Conner and Dewberry.
- With the game tied, Green followed immediately after with another two-RBI single to put Presbyterian up 12-10.
- Robbie Boykin shut down Winthrop in the ninth to help PC finish a dramatic 12-10 victory in Clinton.
