Pitching Dominance Lifts PC Past Longwood 3-2

FARMVILLE, Va. - The Presbyterian College baseball team (9-30, 5-8 Big South) picked up its third straight conference win on Friday night (April 17), opening its three-game series at Longwood with a 3-2 victory at Buddy Balding Stadium.


Tyrell Williams dominated the Lancers on the mound, tossing seven innings while striking out seven. Robbie Boykin threw two clean innings in relief, punching out three to get the save and secure a Blue Hose road win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- James Green hit a leadoff double to right center to open the game. After Bo Moody bunted him over to third, Matthew Rollison got the Blue Hose on the board with a sacrifice fly RBI to right field.
- Longwood tied the game in the bottom of the second, but Presbyterian responded to take the lead in the fourth. After back-to-back singles from Rollison and Emory Guilford, Cam Mallo brought around both runners with a two-RBI single through the left side, giving PC a 3-1 lead.
- Tyrell Williams was dominant on the mound after the second inning, surrendering no runs until the eighth inning. He retired the Lancers in order in both the sixth and seventh frames, finishing the seventh with two straight punchouts.
- Boykin recorded six straight outs for Presbyterian to finish the night, limiting the Longwood offense to no hits. He got the save in the end to help PC begin the series with a road win.

 

 

NOTABLES 
- Tyrell Williams matched his career-high with seven innings pitched on Friday night. He allowed just four hits while allowing two runs. He posted seven strikeouts as well, his second-highest of the season.
- Robbie Boykin logged his second career save, tossing two scoreless innings. He struck out three while walking none.
- Emory Guilford led the Blue Hose offensively, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. This is his ninth career multi-hit game.
- Cam Mallo also had a productive evening at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs. This is his second multi-hit game in his past three outings. His two RBIs tie a career-high.
- Amman Dewberry posted two hits against Longwood, recording his 10th multi-hit performance.
- As a team, the Blue Hose had eight hits. James Green and Matthew Rollison also tallied hits.
