Presbyterian Drops Saturday Thriller at Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. - The Presbyterian College baseball team (9-31, 5-9 Big South) rallied from a six-run deficit to take the lead in the seventh inning, but Longwood walked it off in the bottom of the ninth to grab an 11-10 victory on Saturday (April 18) at Buddy Balding Stadium.

 

The Blue Hose trailed 6-0 after two innings but stormed all the way back, using five runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead 10-9. However, the Lancers plated a run in both the eighth and ninth frames to hang on, taking game two of the three-game series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Longwood started fast on Saturday afternoon, plating six runs in the first two innings to grab a 6-0 lead over PC.
- Presbyterian got one run back in the third on an Amman Dewberry RBI single up the middle.
- Jonathan Williams roped a single into right field in the fourth to plate another run, pulling PC closer. However, Longwood responded with a run in the bottom of the frame to maintain a 6-2 advantage.
- PC continued to fight in the fifth, getting right back in the game with three runs. Emory Guilford doubled down the right field line to bring around Dewberry and Matthew Rollison. Williams delivered again two batters later, doubling to score Guilford and closing the gap to just two.
- Longwood answered in the bottom of the sixth with two runs to push the lead back up to four.
- Trailing by four, the Blue Hose put together a huge inning in the seventh to take the lead. Following a Guilford double, Nick Smith crushed a two-run homer to right field. 
- Later in the inning, Cam Mallo came up clutch, tying the game on a massive two-RBI double to left center. The PC bats continued to stay hot, as James Green followed with an RBI single to put the Blue Hose ahead for the first time.
- Presbyterian maintained the lead in the bottom of the seventh, but the Lancers brought a run across in the eighth to knot the game up at 10.
- Longwood closed it out in the ninth, walking off Presbyterian on an RBI single to right field.

 

 

NOTABLES 
- Presbyterian put up 10 runs offensively for the game, reaching double-digit runs for the seventh time this season. 
- As a team, the Blue Hose tallied 14 hits.
- Jonathan Williams led the PC offense on Saturday, posting a career-high three hits. He finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs. His two RBIs tie a season-high.
- Emory Guilford also recorded three hits, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. He hit three doubles in the game, tying a PC D1 program record. He is now the seventh player to log three doubles in a contest. Matthew Rollison was the last player to do it, accomplishing the feat on March 14, 2025.
- James Green and Amman Dewberry both tallied two hits. This is Dewberry's second straight game with two base knocks.
- Green and Bo Moody both stole a base. They lead the team with 12 stolen bases apiece.
- Christian Charalambous started on the mound for the Blue Hose. Seven pitchers appeared for PC in the contest.
