Blue Hose Drop Tuesday Clash at South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Presbyterian College baseball team (9-33, 5-10 Big South) played its third opponent from the SEC this season on Tuesday night (April 21), falling to South Carolina 9-3 at Founders Park.


Matthew Rollison hit a two-run home run in the first inning to put the Blue Hose ahead 2-0, but the Gamecocks controlled the rest of the game to come away with a 9-3 midweek win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Bo Moody reached base on a hit-by-pitch, Matthew Rollison opened the game with a two-run home run to left field in the top of the first, bringing home the opening two runs of the evening for the Blue Hose.
- South Carolina responded with a run in the bottom of the frame before tying the contest in its next chance to bat in the second, scoring on a wild pitch.
- The Gamecocks took the lead for the first time in the third inning, plating two runs on a home run to center field. The Gamecocks hit another home run in the fourth to go up 5-2.
- Three more runs came across the board for the Gamecocks in the fifth, extending the South Carolina lead to six.
- PC got back into the scoring column in the sixth inning, as Rollison came around to score on a wild pitch.
- The Gamecocks tallied their final run of the night in the seventh inning and would go on to win 9-3 in Columbia.

 

 

NOTABLES 
- Matthew Rollison homered for the seventh time this season to open the game. His seven home runs are tied with Amman Dewberry for the most on the team.
- James Green extended his hit streak to eight games with a single in the second inning. Green has now reached base in 16 straight contests.
- Dewberry and Rollison extended their hit streaks to seven games.
- Cam Mallo also tallied a hit for Presbyterian.
- Tucker Meredith made his fourth start of the year on the mound, pitching 3 innings. He struck out three.
- Bauer Burkart and Brooks Chamberlin tossed scoreless frames for the Blue Hose.
- Domaine Vann made his third pitching appearance of the season in the seventh inning.
