Presbyterian Walks-Off Radford to Win 6-5 on Friday Night

CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College baseball team (10-33, 6-10 Big South) won in style to open the series against Radford on Friday night (April 24), walking off the Highlanders with a sacrifice fly RBI to pick up a 6-5 victory at the PC Baseball Complex.

Cam Mallo delivered all night for the Blue Hose offensively. He hit a three-run home run in the second inning and broke a 5-5 tie in the ninth, scoring Aidan Taylor on a sacrifice fly to center field to win the game and take the series opener.

FINAL SCORE: Presbyterian 6, Radford 5
W: Robbie Boykin (2-2) | L: Trey Ludy (2-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team scored in the first inning to begin the game, but the Blue Hose offense exploded in the second frame.
- Back-to-back doubles from Amman Dewberry and Emory Guilford started the onslaught, plating the game's first run. Later in the inning with two on base and two outs, Cam Mallo crushed a three-run homer to left field, putting PC up 4-0 to start the night.
- Dewberry stayed hot in the third, leaving the yard beyond the center field fence to extend the Presbyterian lead to 5-0.
- Radford got back into the game in the fifth, scoring its first two runs of the game on a sacrifice fly RBI and a home run.
- The Highlanders rallied all the way back to tie the game in the sixth, plating three runs on three hits to knot the game up at five.
- Both bullpens dominated late in the game, as neither side could string together offense. Robbie Boykin entered the contest in the top of the sixth, retiring eight of the first 10 batters he faced.
- Boykin allowed a leadoff single in the ninth but managed his way out of trouble. The Blue Hose turned a huge double play to get out of the inning to move on to the bottom of the frame still tied.
- Jonathan Williams came up clutch to start the ninth, leading off the frame with a double to right center. Aidan Taylor came in to pinch run and quickly advanced to third base on a wild pitch.
- With one out and Taylor standing on third, Mallo finished off the game with a game-winning sacrifice fly RBI to center field, scoring Taylor to walk off the Highlanders.
