CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After a sizzling four-game period where she batted .600 and increased her ongoing hitting streak to 18 games, infielder
Hali Duke of the Presbyterian College softball team has been announced as the Big South Freshman of the Week.
Duke collects the conference Freshman of the Week honor for the second time in her rookie campaign (she also scooped this accolade back in February), becoming the third player in school history to win this particular award more than once.
In possession of the sixth-highest BA in the Big South and the second-best of any true freshman, Duke scattered five hits in last weekend's series with Longwood. She has reached base safely in all nine league outings so far.
The Georgia native has a chance to extend her hitting streak to 20 tomorrow as the Blue Hose visit Furman for a midweek doubleheader. ESPN+ will have coverage of both games, starting at 4:00.
DUKE ALWAYS DELIVERS
- It has been nearly five weeks since Duke did not record a hit (game one versus Queens way back on March 3). She is batting .431 (22-of-51) since the streak started, sprinkling in eight walks as well.
- Hali is Presbyterian's team leader in doubles (10), RBI (25), on-base percentage (.465), and total bases (61). She has struck out just eight times in 126 plate appearances.
- The freshman phenom is batting 12-of-23 against Big South adversaries (.522), scoring a team-best seven runs in those league matchups.
- Duke has logged six games with multiple RBI, including the series opener with Longwood on Friday where she simultaneously completed her third three-hit effort.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HISTORY
- Under the
David Williams administration (since 2019), the Blue Hose have seen seven different players recognized as the conference Freshman of the Week.
- Duke joins Morgan Hess (2022) and
Kasey Wolfe (2024) as the only PC players to win this honor at least twice.
- This is the third occasion in 2026 that Presbyterian has received a weekly award from the Big South, as senior
Peyton Duncan was chosen as the Pitcher of the Week following the season's first weekend.
