CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College baseball team (11-39, 7-12 Big South) overcame a two-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth, coming back to defeat USC Upstate 6-5 in its series opener on Friday night (May 1) at the PC Baseball Complex.

Layton Hyneman brought around the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth on a sacrifice bunt to first base, scoring Aidan Taylor to walk off the Spartans and claim game one of the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both starting pitchers dominated out of the gate on Friday evening, not allowing a single base runner in the first three innings of play.
- USC Upstate eventually struck first in the fourth inning, plating the game's first run on a sacrifice fly RBI. The Spartans added to their lead in the fifth, scoring a run on an error.
- Jonathan Williams got the Blue Hose on the board for the first time in the seventh, crushing a solo home run to left field to close the gap to one.
- However, USC Upstate answered right back in the top of the eighth, scoring three runs on three hits to grab a 5-1 advantage.
- Down by four, Presbyterian went to work to chip away at the lead. Andrew Albertus recorded an RBI groundout to bring home Brody Linker. Bo Moody followed with an RBI base knock, scoring Layton Hyneman to cut the deficit to two.
- After holding the Spartans scoreless in the top of the ninth, PC continued where it left off offensively. Amman Dewberry led off the inning with a single before being brought all the way around to score on an RBI triple by Emory Guilford.
- With the deficit at one, Cam Mallo tied the game in PC's next at-bat, singling to score Guilford to knot the game up at five.
- The Blue Hose kept the momentum going in the ninth with a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice bunt to get two runners in scoring position. With just one out, Layton Hyneman stepped up to the plate and put together the finishing touch on the night, executing a squeeze play to walk off the Spartans 6-5 to claim the victory.
