Presbyterian Falls to USC Upstate on Senior Day

CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College baseball team (11-40, 7-13 Big South) dropped game two of its series on Saturday afternoon (May 9), suffering a 7-1 defeat to USC Upstate on Senior Day at the PC Baseball Complex.

 

Emory Guilford tallied the lone RBI for PC, singling home Andrew Albertus to tie the game in the fourth inning. The Spartans responded with six unanswered runs to claim the win.

 

Before the game, the Blue Hose honored Robbie Boykin, Eli Bowery, Connor Bradley, Amman Dewberry, Mason McDaniel, Kyle Mueller, Nick Smith, and bullpen catcher Jaden Holder for Senior Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Christian Charalambous tossed a scoreless first inning on the mound to begin the game, but USC Upstate got to him in the second, plating a run on an RBI single.
- Charalambous bounced back after the early run, blanking the Spartans in the third and fourth frames.
- Down one, the Blue Hose tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Emory Guilford singled to left field to bring around Andrew Albertus. Albertus and Jonathan Williams opened the frame with singles to left field.
- The Spartans jumped back ahead in their next chance to bat, scoring two runs on a balk and an RBI single to grab a 3-1 advantage.
- The USC Upstate bats stayed hot in the sixth inning, tagging Charalambous for three more runs to take a 6-1 lead.
- The Spartans tallied one more run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly RBI to finish the afternoon, tying the series with a 7-1 victory in Clinton.

 


NOTABLES 
- Andrew Albertus reached base twice for the Blue Hose, going 1-for-3 with a run scored and a walk.
- Emory Guilford logged PC's lone RBI, his 33rd of the year.
- Mikah Conner went 1-for-4 at the plate, tallying his first hit of Big South play.
- Layton Hyneman finished the contest 1-for-3. He has posted hits in back-to-back games.
- Christian Charalambous made his 13th start of the season on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings. He struck out five.
- Mikey Marroquin Jr. delivered for the Blue Hose out of the bullpen, tossing 3.1 innings. He allowed just two hits and one earned run while striking out two.
- Marroquin's 3.1 innings pitched tie a season-high.
