PC Defeats Newberry In Consolation Game

Spartanburg, S.C. - A second half scoring flurry by sharp-shooting Gordy Adam carried Presbyterian to its victory over Newberry in the consolation game.

Adam, deadly with set shots from the corners, flipped in 24 points, 17 of them coming in the second half. He hit 11 shots from the floor and had two-for-two from the free throw line.

Danny Charles, PC captain from Spartanburg fired in 18 points and Ken Martin scored 15.

After a sluggish first half, which saw the Blue Hose leading 34-24 at intermission, Adam and Charles combined their shots to push PC into a 52-32 lead with only seven minutes gone in the last half. Charles scored seven points during the brief flurry and Adam contributing six.

Rusty Bouton came off the Newberry bench in the second half to lead the Indians' scoring with 18 points.

Two Terriers, Lyons and Hayes, were named to the all-tournament team. Others selected were Hancock and Bill Simpson of Erskine and Gordy Adam of Presbyterian.
