CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian Blue Hose head men's basketball coach
Quinton Ferrell announced the signing of Nehemiah Young, a 6-foot-4 guard from Tallahassee, Florida. Young enjoyed an outstanding high school career at the South Kent School in South Kent, Connecticut.
"Nehemiah Young is a 6-foot-4 guard who has big-time versatility on both sides of the court and possesses a high basketball IQ," Ferrell said. "He's a young man who impacts winning, and you notice the influence his family and being a coach's son have had on him as a player. Nehemiah can score at all three levels; he's a good athlete and also has the potential to be a big-time defender at the college level. Nehemiah will be a huge asset to both our campus and community; he is a high-character young man who will represent our program at an elite level. I look forward to Nehemiah and his family being a part of our Blue Hose family."
As a senior, Young averaged 11.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.
Young comes from a basketball family. Young's father, Charlton Young, is the associate head coach with the University of Miami men's basketball program. His father was the head coach at Georgia Southern for four years, and he has been a member of the coaching staffs at Missouri, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Jacksonville, Northeastern, and Chattanooga in a 30-year coaching career. Nehemiah's mother, Carolyn, was a two-time All-American and the 1991 SEC Player of the Year who led Auburn to two Final Fours. She also earned a bronze medal playing for the United States in the 1992 Olympics. Nehemiah's two sisters played college basketball: Ariel at North Carolina and Audia at Xavier.
"Nehemiah has been a phenomenal member of our basketball program," said South Kent Head Coach Craig Carter. "He is an exceptional athlete who competes on both ends of the floor and was dedicated to doing anything and everything to help our team win. PC is getting a tremendous basketball player whose best basketball is ahead of him, but an even better person. We couldn't be happier for Nehemiah in this next step in his basketball journey."
