BLUE HOSE FALL IN OPENING ROUND OF & DISNEY TIP-OFF CLASSIC

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Nebraska-Omaha shot 57 percent from the field as they rolled to a 89-75 victory against Presbyterian College Friday night in the opening round of Disney's Division II Men's Tip-Off Classic at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.

The Mavericks (1-0) dominated inside with 6-8 forward Ryan Curtis and 6-8 center Chris Despain leading the way with 19 and 17 points, respectively. The two combined to miss just five of their 20 shots.

Presbyterian College (0-1) never led in the game. The Blue Hose tied the game at eight early on a lay-up by Bryan Bostic, but then allowed Nebraska-Omaha to go on a 19-3 run. Presbyterian did not come within two possessions again.

Senior guard Calvin Kapels scored 14 for the Mavericks and tied a Tip-Off tournament record with 6 steals. Eight other players currently hold the record as well. Nebraska-Omaha finished with 15 steals in the game.

The Blue Hose had five players finish in double figures, including Oviedo High School graduate Grant Herren, who finished with 13. Bostic led Presbyterian with 14 points. Nebraska-Omaha will play Southern Indiana at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Presbyterian College meets the Caldwell College in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
