PC CLAIMS FIFTH PLACE AT DISNEY TIP-OFF CLASSIC WITH OT WIN OVER PHILADELPHIA

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Down by 19 points with under 14 minutes left in regulation, Presbyterian College surged late to come back and beat Philadelphia in overtime, 84-78, Sunday in the fifth-place game at Disney's Division II Tip-Off Classic at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.

Blue Hose reserve Drew Briggs (Alpharetta, Ga.)nailed a three-pointer with 10 seconds left in regulation to force the extra period before Presbyterian outscored Philadelphia 13-7 in overtime to clinch the victory.

Spoiled in defeat was All-America guard Tayron Thomas' spectacular 53-point performance, two shy of a tournament record. The senior, who scorched the nets for 33 points in the first half, shot 18-for-27 from the field while adding nine rebounds and four steals.

Center Tray Ballenger (Wellford, SC) led Presbyterian (2-1) with 17 points while Grant Herren (Oviedo, Fla.) and Johann Collins (Raleigh, NC) added 13 points apiece in the win. Biggs added 12 points off the bench.

Thomas set a Disney Tip-Off Classic record with 98 points in three games, breaking the mark of 91 set by Ben Dewar of Lake Superior State in 1992. The senior also set tournament total and single-game records for field goals made with 32 and 18, respectively.
Thomas and Presbyterian's Herren were selected to Disney's Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament team.
