CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College sophomore forward Drew Biggs (Alpharetta, Ga.) led three players in double figures with a career-high 20 points as the Blue Hose rolled past Lander University 77-61 in the first game of the ninth annual SAC/PBC Clash held at The Courthouse on the campus of USC Aiken.
Biggs hit five-of-seven three-point field goals on the night to go along with three boards. Senior center Johann Collins (Raleigh, N.C.) added 13 points for the Blue Hose while freshman guard Bryan Bostic (Norcross, Ga.) came off the bench to add 10 points and four assists.
PC (5-1) led wire-to-wire in the contest and held a 43-26 lead heading into intermission. The Blue Hose were red-hot from the field in the first half, shooting 57.7% from the floor including four-of-six from beyond the arc. The Bearcats shot only 33.3% from the field on nine-of-27 attempts.
PC's lead increased to its largest margin of 27 points at 56-29 on pair of free throws from Collins at the 15:47 mark of the second half. The Bearcats went on an 18-2 run over the next eight and half minutes, holding PC without a field goal for almost four minutes of the run. Lander's Jason Davis finished the run with a pair of free throws at the 7:11 mark to cut the lead to 58-47.
The Blue Hose closed out the game on the charity stripe by hitting eight-of-11 free throw attempts in the final two minutes of the game.
The Bearcats (1-3) were led in scoring on the night by Jarred Jackson who tallied 13 points and four boards, while Michael Griffin added 11 points and three assists. Derek Brooks came off the bench to add 10 points and five boards for Lander.
PC's sophomore center Martynas Versinskas (Kaunas, Lithuania) came off the bench to tally eight points and eight boards while senior forward Tray Ballenger (Wellford, S.C.) chipped in nine points.
The Blue Hose will return to action tomorrow night at 7:30 pm when they play host USC Aiken while Lander will take on Newberry College in the early game starting at 5:30 pm.
