PC Makes History

CLINTON, S.C. ? Freshman Al'Lonzo Coleman hit a lay-up with 15 seconds left to put PC ahead by two and the Blue Hose never looked back as PC claimed its first ever NCAA Division I men's basketball victory with a 62-60 win over Radford on Saturday evening at the Templeton Center.

PC improves to 1-8 on the season, while the Highlanders fall to 2-6 on the year.

Radford had gone ahead by four at 60-56 after a jumper by Joey Lynch-Flohr with 59 seconds left in the contest, but the Blue Hose kept fighting hard to claim victory No. 1 in its first year of transition and would not give up.

Pat Kiscaden (Oviedo, Fla.) started the late game comeback for PC, hitting his only shot of the night at the most pivotal time as he nailed a three-pointer to set the score at 60-59 in favor of the Highlanders.

The Blue Hose then forced Radford into a turnover on their own half. Travis Sligh (Columbia, S.C.) was able to come away with the basketball and the Blue Hose took advantage on the next possession when they acquired their first lead in over four minutes at 61-60 with 15 seconds left in the game.

Kiscaden then hit one of two free throw attempts with three seconds left and the Highlanders could not convert on their last second halfcourt heave, giving the Blue Hose their historical first NCAA Division I victory.

PC had two players conclude the game in double figures led by Bryan Bostic (Norcross, Ga.), who had a season-high 17 points in the game. Bostic was 5-for-7 from the field in the contest, including 2-for-4 on his three-pointers.

Bostic, who tied his season-high in rebounds with seven and his career-high with five assists in the victory, was also 5-for-7 in the game from the charity stripe.

Sligh finished the win with 11 points, three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal.

Radford had four players conclude their sixth loss of the season in double figures. Joey Lynch-Flohr ended the contest with 21 points and seven rebounds to lead the Highlander attack.

Radford Point guard Amir Johnson finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Kenny Thomas was 5-for-6 from the free throw line en route to 11 points. Martell McDuffy had 10 points and five rebounds in the loss.

The Highlanders shot better overall in the contest than the Blue Hose at 45.8 percent to PC's 39.2 percent, but the Blue Hose were much stouter from the three-point line as the Blue Hose shot 33 percent and the Highlanders were only 1-for-10 from beyond the arc.

PC obtained the majority of its treys in the second half, going 7-for-16 on its three-pointers in the final stanza. Radford in turn was 1-for-5 on its three-pointers in the half.

PC returns to the hardwood in three days for the first of a season-long 11-game road stretch. The Blue Hose will take on two Big South teams next week with games against Liberty and Coastal Carolina.

PC will first travel to Lynchburg, Va. to take on the Liberty Flames at 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4 and then will then close out its week with a game against the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7.
