MILWAUKEE, WIS.--The Presbyterian College men's basketball team stayed within seven points of Marquette until late in the first half, but the Golden Eagles eventually pulled away for a 102-62 victory over the Blue Hose.
PC was lead by Zach Faircloth's 15 points, and Khalid Mutakabbir chipped in 14 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Travis Smith tallied four assists, and Faircloth also collected two steals.
Faircloth hit a jumper at the 16:52 mark for PC's first basket of the game, and sank a big three pointer on the next possession to tie the score at 5-5 at with 16:16 left in the first half.
After trading baskets for the next minutes, the Blue Hose took their first lead of the game at 13:54 after Chase Holmes' two free throws gave PC a 10-8 advantage. Marquette regained the lead, eventually pulling ahead by seven points, 24-16.
PC, however, remained within striking distance up until the seven minute mark. The Golden Eagles led by no more than seven points until a basket with 7:05 remaining in the first half started a 9-3 run for the Golden Eagles. Ryan Hargrave and Holmes each hit a three point basket in the last minutes of the half to cut into Marquette's lead, but the Blue Hose entered the locker room at half time trailing 49-28.
Troyli and Holmes started the second half 4-4 from behind the free throw line, and Mutakabbir chipped in jumper to make the score 53-34 with 17:19 remaining in the game.
Faircloth went on a five point run of his own with two back to back buckets, cutting into Marquette's lead and making it 66-41 in favor of the Golden Eagles at the 13:15 mark.
Hargrave and Smith each hit late three pointers for the Blue Hose, but Marquette came away with the 102-62 win over PC.
With the loss PC falls to 2-11 on the season, and Marquette moves to 9-3. The Blue Hose return to action on Wednesday when they take on the Florida Gators in Gainesville, Fla. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
