RADFORD, Va.
? The Presbyterian College men's basketball team was unable to overcome a
14-point halftime deficit, falling to Big South Conference foe Radford 78-61 Saturday
evening.
The Blue Hose fall to 10-13 on the season and 7-5 against conference
competition. The Highlanders improve to 13-10 overall and 10-2 in Big South
play.
Senior Bryan Bostic
led the way for PC, netting a team-best 20 points on eight-of-16 shooting from
the floor. Al'Lonzo Coleman posted a double-double, tallying 15 points while
pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore Josh Johnson was the only other
Gregg Nibert pupil to notch double figures in points, accounting for 10.
Bostic hit a three-point shot almost a minute into the game, giving the Blue
Hose what turned out to be their only lead of the game. Radford jumped out to a
20-8 advantage just 7:01
into the contest, and kept the visitors at bay for the rest of the half.
Down 28-19 with just over six minutes to go in the stanza, Chase Holmes nailed
a three-pointer from deep off a pass from Kevin Davis. However, the Highlanders
would score the next four points of the game to put the margin back at double
figures.
PC found itself down 40-26 at the break and things did not go as planned at the
start of the second period. Radford opened the final 20 minutes of play on a
9-0 run before Coleman's slashing drive to the hoop ended the scoring drought
4:14 into the half.
Nibert's team found itself down by 21 points in the second period, but never
gave up. The team slowly chipped away at the lead thanks in part to a total
team effort as Bostic, Coleman, Johnson and Aaron Gibbs all scored during the
run. With 7:01
to play, the Blue Hose found themselves down just 10, 56-46.
Radford answered with a 7-0 run in just 1:18
of play, essentially putting the game out of reach for PC.
For the game, both teams shot nearly 50 percent from the floor. The Blue Hose
connected on 23-of-49 shots for 47 percent while the home team hit 25-of-51 for
49 percent. The Blue Hose made five three-point shots compared to four by
Radford. However, the difference in the game was the fact the Highlanders made
24-of-27 foul shots while PC got to the line just 10 times, but connected on
every attempt. PC also committed 21 turnovers while forcing just 12. Nibert's
team did out-rebound the home team, 28-26.
The Blue Hose return to action Monday evening when they take on Liberty
in Lynchburg,
Va. Tip-off is
slated for 7 p.m.
