LYNCHBURG, Va. - Presbyterian College women's
soccer looked poised to earn points in the final match of the 2010 season but a
goal just four minutes from time gave Liberty a 1-0 win. The defeat ended the season for the Blue Hose
who are not eligible for the Big South Conference Tournament which starts next
week.
The first half
of play was a scoreless affair with Liberty (7-10-2, 4-5 BSC) taking a 7-4 lead
in shots and a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal.
PC (5-13-1, 2-7 BSC) led in corners, 2-0.
PC took an
upper hand in the second half by registering ten shots in the second half to
Liberty's four.
The Flames,
however, scored the match winner in the 86th minute when Maria Owen
tapped in a corner kick from Laura Nyholt for her fourth tally of the season.
The Blue Hose
were led in shooting by senior Stephanie Aaron (Clemson, S.C.) who posted seven
total shots in her final collegiate match.
Freshman sensation Sara Simpson (Columbia, S.C.) also recorded three
attempts.
Jordan
Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) went the distance in goal and stopped three shots.
The scoreless
match means that Rebecca Miller (Pauline, S.C.) and Kate Baker (Forsyth, Ga.)
finish the season with three goals in a tie for the team scoring lead. It's the second time that Baker, a senior,
has won the scoring title at PC.
