HARRISONBURG, Va.-
The Presbyterian
College men's basketball team lost its second game of the College Basketball
Experience Tournament, falling 71-47 to Bucknell at the Convocation Center at
James Madison University.
The
Blue Hose were led by Khalid Mutakabbir's 13 points, while Ryan Hargrave
chipped in eight points and four rebounds. Al'Lonzo Coleman grabbed a team high
seven rebounds.
Bucknell
jumped out to an early 9-0 lead before Mutakabbir's three-point bucket at the
15:10 mark put PC on the board. After a jumper from Ryan Hargrave, a steal on
the next possession resulted in a fast break layup for Josh Johnson to make the
score 12-8 with just under 12 minutes in the half.
The
Bison then went on a 12-3 run before two consecutive baskets for the Blue Hose
cut into Bucknell's lead, making it 25-16 at 8:18. The Blue Hose were held to
only one field goal over the next six minutes until Johnson sank a layup with
1:27 remaining in the half to make the score 36-20 in favor of the Bison. Helped
by eight first-half three pointers, the Bison would eventually take a 40-20
lead in the locker room at half time.
PC
shot 30.8 percent from the field in the first half, going 8-26 with Johnson
leading the way with four first-half points.
The
Blue Hose were the first to score to start the second half with Mutakabbir
draining a three pointer and a layup from Coleman two minutes later helped make
the score 44-25 with 17:33 left in the game.
Despite
a three pointer by Pierre Miller and a basket by Hargrave, the Bison extended
their lead, going up 53-30 at 13:58 before a jumper by freshman Josh Clyburn
gave two points to PC.
Mutakabbir
chipped in two consecutive baskets, and then two free throws, giving him nine
for the half, but Bucknell remained on top 61-41 with under six minutes left in
the game. Hargrave hit a three pointer at the 1:41 mark, but the Bison stayed
firmly in control and went on to the 71-47 victory.
The
Blue Hose fall to 1-3 on the season while Bucknell advances to 2-3. PC returns
to action tomorrow at 7 p.m. when they face James Madison.
