CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College volleyball team was unable to
defeat High Point Friday evening, falling 3-0 by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-21.
The Blue Hose now stand at 12-16 overall and 5-8 in Big South play.
Senior Amanda Kettles led the way with a team-high 10 kills while hitting a
solid .444. Ashley Dunlap posted a match-high 13 digs while Kilee Ruppe dished
out 27 assists to go along with seven digs. Lisa Shelley chipped in seven
kills. Fellow senior Carolyn Fabros totaled three digs while Elizabeth Heineman
posted four digs and an assist.
Rookie Andrea Barman stuffed a team-best three shots while Mabrey accounted for
the team's lone solo stuff.
PC fell behind in the early going 12-5, but the team put together a few points
on kills by Allison Brown and a block by Ruppe and Kettles. The team pulled
within two when Courtney Johnk misfired on an attempt. However, the team could
get no closer in the 25-19 loss.
In the second set, the Panthers got out to an 8-3 lead before Shelley responded
with a kill following a PC timeout. It sparked a run that saw back-to-back
errors by HPU. The Blue Hose pulled within one when Presley Mabrey stuffed a
shot, but the team was unable to draw even as the Panthers scored the next two
points.
Despite HPU maintaining the lead, PC continued to battle back, recording kills
by Kettles and Barman. The Panthers managed to pull away near the end of the
set, winning 25-17.
After the break, PC responded well, taking a 4-3 lead in the third set after
back-to-back kills by Kettles, who leads the conference in attack percentage.
The teams went back-and-forth throughout the entire set with neither taking
more than a two-point lead at the midway point.
A time-out by the visitors helped them regroup, scoring four of the five points
out of a time-out, making the score 19-16. PC sliced into the lead on a service
error and then on a kill by Barman. With the score tied at 21, the Panthers
were able to take the set 25-21.
The Blue Hose will host Radford tomorrow afternoon in the team's last home
match of the season. First serve is slated for 4 p.m.
