SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Presbyterian College men's tennis team was able to
win two points against Wofford, but it was not enough in the 5-2 loss Wednesday
afternoon.
The Blue Hose now stand at 0-4 on the young season while the Terriers improve
to 1-2.
In doubles action, the doubles tandem of Andrew Brigham and Zachary Sprouse at
the No. 2 spot downed Stuart Robertson and Tom Wood 8-7. However, it was not
enough as both the No. 1 and No. 3 squads were unable to record a win, giving
Wofford the doubles point.
At the top spot, Matthew Martin and Ivan Ho fell 8-3 to Paul Bartholomy and
Alan Donald. At the No. 3 spot, Edward Snead IV and Ryan Walters succumbed to
Tinsu Van Wyk and Drew Superstein by an 8-3 count.
In singles action, PC quickly tied the match at one point apiece as Martin
downed Van Wyk 6-7, 7-6, 10-3 at the No. slot. Rookie Andrew Brigham knocked
off Robertson 6-1, 6-2. Trying to take the lead, PC fell just short as Ho lost
two tough sets to Donald, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 3 position.
Sprouse was unable to defeat Bartholomy at the No. 4 spot, losing 6-0, 6-3.
Walters put up a tough fight in the fifth position, but Superstein was able to
hold on for the close win, 6-2, 6-4.
Snead, who saw time at the No. 6 slot, fell 6-3, 6-0 to Michael Schecter.
The Blue Hose will look for their first win of the season Saturday when they
travel to Clemson. The match is slated for a 3:30 p.m., start.
