CLEMSON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College men's tennis team put forth a
solid effort Saturday afternoon against a tough Clemson team, but was unable to
secure a point in the 7-0 loss.
The Blue Hose now stand at 0-5 on the season.
After losing the doubles point, Andrew Brigham took Gera Boryachinskiy to extra
points in the second set before falling. Brigham lost 6-1, 7-5 (10-8) at the
No. 1 position.
Matthew Martin took three games off Kevin Galloway at the No. 2 spot. Martin
lost a 6-3, 6-0 decision. At No. 3, Ivan Ho lost to Robert Piztruch 6-3, 6-1.
Zachary Sprouse lost a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Zachary Rigsby at No. 4. Rookie
Edward Snead IV pushed Juan Bolona as the fifth seed, but was unable to secure
a set. Snead fell 6-3, 7-5. Fellow newcomer Ryan Watters lost a 6-0, 6-1
decision to Wesley Moran.
In doubles play, the Tigers were able to get the point after sweeping each of
the three matches.
Martin and Ho teamed up for the top spot, taking on Rob Bizjak and Derek
DiFazio. The Tigers won the contest 8-1. Brigham and Sprouse squared off
against Boryachinskiy Carlos Alvarez. The Blue Hose tandem was able to take
three games off Clemson, but eventually the home team prevailed 8-3. Snead and
James Zaher lost an 8-2 battle to Wesley Moran and Galloway.
The Blue Hose will get back to the courts on Thursday. PC enters Big South
Conference play Thursday afternoon as it hosts Gardner-Webb in the squad's home
opener. The teams are set to play at 2 p.m.
