CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College men's tennis team put forth a
strong effort, but was unable to defeat Mercer Sunday afternoon, losing 5-2.
The Blue Hose now stand at 5-12 on the season.
PC won the first doubles match to get things started as Andrew Brigham and
Zachary Sprouse downed Matthew Poleon and Evandro Rosindo 8-6. However, the
Blue Hose were unable to pick up another victory in doubles competition,
allowing the Bears to claim the point.
Second-seeded Matt Martin and Ivan Ho lost 8-6 to Adam Hunt and David Barton. Ed
Snead and James Zaher lost a 9-7 battle to Victor Dias and Peter Tauchner at
the No. 3 spot.
The Blue Hose jumped on top as the top two singles players won their respective
matches. Brigham went 2-0 on the day after defeating Rosindo a second time.
This time, Brigham won 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 1 position. Martin beat Dias
5-7, 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.
Mercer was able to pick up the last four singles points, ultimately coming away
with the 5-2 win. Sprouse dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Fernando Amendaris at
the No. 3 position while Ho lost 6-3, 6-4 to Tauchner at No. 4.
Snead pushed Barton in the second set, but lost 6-2, 6-4 as the No. 5 seed
while Ryan Walters lost 6-2, 6-2 to Hunt.
The Blue Hose return to action Saturday at 10 a.m., when they host Liberty in a
Big South Conference contest.
