CLINTON, S.C. - Despite winning the No. 1 seeded doubles match,
Presbyterian College was unable to carry the momentum the rest of the match,
falling 7-0 to Liberty Saturday morning.
The Blue Hose now stand at 5-13 on the year and 0-3 in Big South Conference
play.
Andrew Brigham and Matt Martin got things started for PC at the top doubles
match. The duo teamed up to defeat Siim Tuus and Tristan Stayt 8-7.
Second-seeded Ivan Ho and Zachary Sprouse lost an 8-0 decision to Giancarlo
Lemmi and Chad Simpson. James Zaher and Edward Snead lost by the same score to
Juan Reyes and Louis Steyn.
Brigham pushed Tuus to extra points in the first set at No. 1 before falling
7-6, 6-2. Martin fought hard against Stayt, but was unable to pull out a
victory at the No. 2 spot. Stayt prevailed 6-3, 6-4.
Ho, who faced Lemmi at the No. 3 position, won the first set 6-2 before falling
6-1, 6-1.Simpson was able to hold off Sprouse at No. 4, winning 7-6, 6-2. At
No. 5, Zaher fell 6-1, 6-2 to Louis Steyn. Wirth was able to secure the 7-0
victory by downing Snead 6-4, 6-0.
The PC men's tennis team's Big South Conference match against UNC Asheville on
Sunday at the Crowne Plaza Tennis Center has been postponed due to rain in the
Asheville area. The match has been rescheduled for April 17 at 12 p.m.
Now, the Blue Hose will host Radford at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 27 in their
Big South home finale - and the next to last home match on the year.
