LEXINGTON, Va. - Presbyterian College
baseball finished the 2010 campaign on a winning streak by taking the second
game of the Friday afternoon doubleheader, 6-0 over VMI, after winning the
opener 23-7. PC earned its first shutout
of the season as Andrew Foushee went the distance on the mound, holding VMI to
just four hits.
PC (15-29, 7-20
BSC) got right to business with three runs in the second inning after both
teams went scoreless in the opening inning.
Tony Micklon came in for the first run of the game when Jesse Harmon
pushed Micklon across when he induced a fielding error by the VMI (32-20, 13-14
BSC) first baseman. Kenny Bryant came
home on Jeff Tatum's groundout while the final run of the inning, Harmon, was
pushed across on Aaron Preston's double up the middle.
Gabe Grammer
opened the third when he was hit by a pitch.
He was worked around and would ultimately score on a Kenny Bryant's
ground out to second base. The tally
gave PC a 4-0 lead after three innings.
The first
pitch of the fourth inning was deposited over the right field fence by Harmon
in his final collegiate game. The
long-ball was his third of the season and 13th of his career. It made the score 5-0 in favor of the
visitors.
Tony Micklon
joined the home run party an inning later with a shot over the left field
fence. His eighth home run of the season
cemented his place as PC's 2010 home run leader.
Foushee was
masterful in the game on the mound for PC to improve to 2-4. He went the distance and earned PC's first
complete game of the season. He struck
out a PC season-high 10 batters including two in the final inning of the
season. Foushee tossed the shutout on just
four hits and no PC errors.
After PC
posted 23 hits and 23 runs in the opener, the Blue Hose only needed four hits
to produce the six runs in game two.
The game
concludes PC's 2010 campaign with a Division I school record 15 wins. Depending on results on the final day of the
regular season, the Blue Hose can finish in ninth place in the Big South, up
from where they were selected (10th) in the preseason coaches poll.
