PC Drops Hard Fought Battle to Wagner

The Blue Hose matched the Seahawks almost shot for shot but were unable to get as many into the back of the net as the Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team fell to Wagner, 20-11, in action tonight in High Point, N.C.

PC (1-5) scored first when Katie Prisco (West Babylon, N.Y.), who also netted the team's last goal as part of her two on the night, sent the ball into the goal at the 3:12 mark as the Blue Hose took the early 1-0 lead.  Wagner responded with seven unanswered goals, including three from Leea Sinay who had four on the night, before Presbyterian College's Shannon Hartford (Georgetown, Mass.) found the net 11:32 remaining in the half.  Kirsten Stenoien (Houston, Texas) followed a minute-and-a-half later (10:03) to cut the margin to five, 3-7.

PC outscored Wagner, 4-3 the remainder of the half to head to intermission down by just three 7-10.  Leading the charge for the Blue Hose was Rachel Sweeney (Waxhaw, N.C.) who had a goal and an assist during the stretch.

Carolyn Clark opened the second half on fire, leading an 8-0 Wagner run with four goals, as the Seahawks stormed out to an 18-7 lead with 9:26 to go in the game.  Presbyterian College, behind goals from four different Blue Hose, staged a comeback, outscoring the Seahawks 4-2 in the final four minutes including the games last three goals, but it came a little too late as PC fell by 20-11.

Leading Wagner in scoring were Carolyn Clark with five and Sinay with four.  Hartford paced PC with three, followed by Stenoien, Prisco and Catherine Ellis (Charlotte N.C.) with two each.

Jaime Beamish (Memphis, Tenn.) and Susan England (Bethesda, Md.) both had four ground balls each, while Stenoien and Ellis led with four draw controls each.

Wagner just edged PC in shots, 35-31, and draw controls, 18-15, while the Blue Hose had two more ground balls, 28-26.

England played the entire 60 minutes and finished with 12 saves.

PC next hosts LaSalle Wednesday, Mar. 9, at Old Bailey Stadium.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
