LEXINGTON, Va. – The Presbyterian College baseball team led for much of its Saturday afternoon contest against VMI, but two home runs in the eighth helped the Keydets edge the Blue Hose, 5-4.

PC moves to 9-16 overall and 0-5 in Big South Conference play. VMI improves to 8-14 and 2-3.

Jay Lizanich (Greer, S.C.) went 2-for-3 while Andrew Williams (Augusta, Ga.) picked up two RBI. Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) also drove in a run, his first of the year.

Starting pitcher Chandler Knox (Columbia, S.C.) turned in a solid outing, allowing three runs over six and one-third innings. The sophomore righthander also struck out a season-high five Keydets. Buck Mosteller (Woodruff, S.C.) took the loss in relief.

PC out-hit VMI, 12-10, and took a 3-0 lead in the third inning. The Blue Hose held a run advantage until VMI scored a pair of runs each in the seventh and eighth to nab the win.

The Blue Hose used doubles from Lizanich and Williams to go ahead 1-0 in the third. Gabe Grammer (Irmo, S.C.) and Zebedis each followed with singles to take a 2-0 lead and Grammer eventually crossed home plate on a two-out wild pitch as PC led by three.

PC tacked on another run in the fourth. Brandon Paul (Augusta, Ga.) led off with a double down the left field line and stole third. Williams then lifted a fly ball to center, deep enough for Paul to tag up and extend PC's lead to 4-0.

VMI found the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning. Nick Dwyer took first on a single and stole second, setting up a Matt Winn RBI single.

The Keydets struck again in the seventh. Berkley Hawkins and Nick Dwyer each tallied a single and a Brandon Diamond triple scored both, pulling VMI to within one, 4-3.

A leadoff home run from George Piccirilli tied the game in the eighth and another solo homer from Jacob Morley put VMI in front for good, 5-4.

The two teams meet on Sunday for the series finale at 1 p.m.
