TOWSON, Md. – Presbyterian College junior catcher/first baseman Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Division I baseball Third Team today, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Zebedis becomes the first Blue Hose named to a CoSIDA Academic All-America team in PC's Division I history and the first since tennis players Lauren Brown and Hector Rincon captured the honor in 2006.
Zebedis earned several academic accolades this season. The junior shared the Big South Conference's Scholar Athlete of the Year award and was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team earlier in May.
The third team lists Zebedis as one of four infielders on the squad, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance in athletics and academics. Zebedis finished the year with a cumulative 3.89 grade point average as a political science major following a perfect 4.00 spring semester.
Zebedis represents one of three Big South Conference players to earn a spot on an Academic All-American team and the only junior, sharing the honor with Coastal Carolina senior Justin Creel and Campbell senior David Olson.
Zebedis led the Blue Hose in Big South multiple-RBI games (10), multiple-hit games (18), overall/Big South RBI and Big South slugging percentage en route to an All-Big South Conference Second Team selection. He started every game for the Blue Hose and finished second on the team with a .292 average at the plate. Zebedis totaled 62 hits, 12 doubles, four home runs and a triple on the year. He also notched 30 RBI and had an on-base percentage of .354.
The honor marks the latest in a long list for Zebedis, who was named the Big South Conference Freshman of the Year in 2011 in addition to a slew of All-American laurels from Baseball America, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, ABCA/Rawlings and Louisville Slugger that year.
