LYNCHBURG, VA.- A late comeback bid by the Presbyterian College men's tennis team came up short on Sunday afternoon at Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts as the Blue Hose lost to Liberty, 4-3.
The Blue Hose fall to 14-6 overall and 1-2 in the Big South Conference. Liberty's record improves to 10-6 on the year.
The Flame's swept PC in doubles play to start the match up 1-0. Dillon Segur and Diego Castano earned an 8-3 win over Diego Manzanas (Madrid, Spain) and Joel Roberts (Summerville, S.C.) at No. 1 doubles, Jorge Azuero and Sam Matheson handed Ben Kelley (Weaverville, N.C.) and Brandon Mills (Lilburn, Ga.) an 8-2 victory at flight 2, and Egon Samaai and David Bush bested Lukas Luckemeier (Greven, Germany) and Alexander Lykou (Aarhus, Denmark) at No. 3 doubles, 8-5.
Segur beat Roberts in straight sets at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4, and Matheson defeated Manzanas 6-4, 6-4 at line 2 to give the Flames a 3-0 lead over the Blue Hose.
Kelley gave PC's its first point with his three-set win over Bush at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 3-6, 6-0.
Alejandro Bejar (Madrid, Spain) beat Azuero in straight sets at line 3, 7-5, 6-4 and Danny Bruce (Marietta, Ga.) tied it up 3-3 with his victory over Castano at line 5, 6-0, 3-6, 6-0.
Samaai decided the match with his comeback against Mills at No. 4 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 to give the Flames its third conference win of the year.
