PC Splits First Day of Blue Hose Match Play Invitational

Ninety Six, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's golf team split the first day of the 2019 Blue Hose Match Play Invitational at The Patriot GC (par-71, 6175 yards) on Monday with a first round win over Longwood and second round defeat against Samford.

PC's Kelli Kragh (2&1), Caroline Martin (2&1) and Taylor Gardner (2UP) picked up wins over the Lancers to start the day. Julie Hillestad played 19 holes against Sirena Walsh before the pair halved the match with the Blue Hose winning 3.5-1.5.

Serina Combs earned the teams' lone second-round win, 2&1, against Samford's Hallianne Hobson.

Gardner-Webb defeated the top-seeded USC Upstate on playoff holes to advance to the championship round against Samford. Gillan O'Brien picked up the deciding win over Anna Chanthaphaeng after 20 holes.

Samford started the day with a 4.0-1.0 win over UNC Asheville, while GWU won 4.0-1.0 over Winthrop.

PC is paired with USC Upstate for the third and final round as the two teams battle for third place.

Six individuals are also playing in a bracketed match play event. USC Upstate's Marley DeFritas and Amber Amaker both advanced to meet in the championship match on Tuesday.

Teams will tee off with a 9:00 am shotgun start. The event is free and open to the public.
