ROCK HILL, S.C. – Four different players recorded double-doubles, but it was not enough as the Presbyterian College volleyball team fell 3-1 (24-26, 25-12, 25-22, 26-24) at Winthrop in its Big South Conference opener on Friday night. PC dips to 5-9 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while WU improves to 9-3 overall, and 1-0 in the Big South.

Notables

- Sophomore Lauren Talbert paced the PC attack and led all players with 16 kills, and added 12 digs for her second double-double of the season.

- Fellow Sophomore Erin Cooke's double-double (13 kills, 22 assists) was her seventh of the season and fourth in PC's last five matches. Cooke also chipped in eight digs, three service aces, and three blocks.

- Sophomore Trinity Williams notched a double-double for the fourth straight contest, collecting 10 kills and 14 digs.

- Junior Sierra Jones registered her first double-double of the season and fourth of her Blue Hose career, posting 19 assists and 10 digs.

- With her match-high 20 digs, senior Erin Eulitz moved past former Blue Hose Ashley Dunlap (2007-10) for the fourth-most career digs in PC's DI era (2007-present). Eulitz has recorded 20 or more digs in four straight countests.

- Freshman Taylor James recorded the first start of her collegiate career.

- Junior Hannah Chapman recorded a dig and a block in her first appearance as a Blue Hose.

How it Happened

- After Presbyterian claimed the first two points of the contest, Winthrop tallied the next five to open up a 5-2 advantage. The Eagles held that lead until the middle of the set, when the Blue Hose were able to even it up at 15-15. The two squads went back-and-forth until Winthrop nosed ahead, 24-22, but PC roared back with a 4-0 run to steal the first set, keyed by three kills from Talbert.

- Winthrop raced out to a 5-0 start in the second set, and tacked on runs of 7-1 and 5-0 to even the match at a set apiece.

- A 4-0 spurt put the Blue Hose on top 12-9 in the third set, but the Eagles answered with an 8-2 run to wrestle the advantage back at 17-14. Presbyterian countered by rattling off the next four straight to snatch a one-point edge, 18-17. With the set deadlocked at 22-22, WU took the next three points to claim the set.

- PC took an 11-7 edge in the fourth set, but a 4-0 spurt by Winthrop helped the Eagles grab a 14-13 advantage. The remainder of the set went back-and-forth, with neither team getting more than two points of separation. The Blue Hose held a 24-23 edge, but WU once again took three consecutive points to take the set and the match.
