CARY, N.C. – The Presbyterian College men's tennis team competed in the ITA Regionals last weekend, compiling some good results over the five-day tournament.
Dusan Milanovic had a strong start as he defeated his first opponent 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the round of 64. He then won his second match a few hours later 6-1, 7-6(1) to put himself in the round of 32. Unfortunately, his run would end there as he lost in the second set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-7(6).
Max Benson started his day with a three-set comeback win over in state competitor Ivan Mitric from Furman. Dropping the first set 3-6, Benson came back to win the next two, both by a score of 6-3. Benson's early magic would come to an end as he was beaten in straight sets in the second round, 4-6, 2-6.
Javi Matos was next to play on Friday morning as he was able to advance to the round of 64 after an opening round win. Advancing by a score of 7-6(4) and 6-4, Matos was onto the next round. His day would end there though as he couldn't get by his next opponent, falling 3-6, 2-6.
Nicholas McKinney was the final singles competitor for Presbyterian, but was bested by his Furman opponent 6-7(3), 4-6. McKinney went on to the consolation bracket, but was knocked out there by a 1-6, 4-6 score.
McKinney would get another crack at it in the doubles bracket, teaming up with Matos. Falling in their first match by two 2-6 scores, they moved to the consolation bracket and won 6-4, 6-4.
Benson and Milanovic paired up and made a great run in doubles. They won their first match, both sets on tiebreakers, by a score of 7-6(5), 7-6(4). Playing immediately after their first match, they fought through a long tiebreaker in set two, coming out on top 4-6, 7-5(12-10). Getting the rest of the day off, they competed again on Sunday morning powering their way through to the quarterfinals after a 5-7, 6-3(10-8) win. A quarterfinals matchup on Monday morning saw their tournament end with a devastating 5-7, 6-3 loss.
