Shchepteva Records Freshman of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Presbyterian College women's golf freshman Alina Shchepteva (Prague, Czech Republic) has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week following her tie for 13th place finish at the Low Country Intercollegiate last weekend.

Shchepteva becomes the second Blue Hose freshman to earn the honor this season as teammate Mariana Polakova has garnered two honors this season.

She opened her tournament with a first-round score of 80 at Hilton Head which led the Blue Hose on the challenging Moss Creek Golf Club. Shchepteva tallied nine pars and a birdie on her final hole of the round. PC tied with Seton Hall in round one with seven birdies to pace the field.

After Saturday's second round was washed out the tournament was condensed to 36 holes and the field wrapped up on Sunday.

Shchepteva had a strong showing in Sunday's final round with a 76 highlighted by a birdie along with 13 pars to her scorecard. She closed the tournament with nine pars over her final 11 holes including eight straight on the back nine to vault into a tie for 13th which led the Blue Hose for the tournament. PC as a team jumped into a tie for fourth with its final round performance. She finished tied for seventh in the field with 22 pars on the weekend.

On the season, Shchepteva has tallied a pair of top 15 in her first three college tournaments including a best of tie for ninth at the Bright's Creek Intercollegiate.

PC returns to the links on Monday April 3rd at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State. The tournament is set to take place at Mimosa Hills Golf Club in Boone, N.C.
