Women's Golf Begins Big South Championship on Wednesday Afternoon

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's golf team begins its pursuit of the 2023 Big South Championship on Wednesday at the Links at Stoney Point. The 54-hole event will begin on Wednesday afternoon with the subsequent rounds taking place on Thursday and Friday with the top four teams advancing on Saturday to match play for the Big South title.

PROBABLES FOR THE BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP
- The Blue Hose probable lineup for the 54-hole event hosted by the league are Sarah Boteler, Alina Shchepteva, Mariana Polakova, Sofia Carles and Taylor Reaves.

TOURNAMENT DETAILS
- The championship is set to fire off on Wednesday with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start as the Blue Hose will be paired with Winthrop in the opening round. The second and third round will feature shotgun starts on Thursday & Friday morning with pairings being determined by scores each day. The top four teams after Friday's action advance to match play on Saturday with the champion being crowned on Saturday afternoon.
- The field includes the entire conference including Campbell, CSU, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Longwood, Radford, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate and Winthrop along with PC.

LAST TIME OUT
- The Presbyterian College women's golf team closed out the regular season on Tuesday with a 10th place finish at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is hosted by Appalachian State on the par-72, 6,213-yard Mimosa Hills Golf & Country Club in Morganton, N.C…
- Freshman Mariana Polakova led the way for PC with a final round of 76 (+4) that saw the Blue Hose freshman total 11 pars and a pair of birdies. She tallied a birdie on her 7th and 12th holes on Tuesday. After her opening hole birdie, she rattled off eight straight pars en route to the 76. Polakova finished in a tie for 38th with a total score of 238.

LAST TIME OUT AT BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP
- The Presbyterian College women's golf team concluded its season on Friday, shooting a 317 to finish the Big South Conference Championship in tenth-place with a three-round total of 955. The Tournament was held at the par-72, 6,297 yards Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C.
 
BLUE HOSE IN 2022-23 SEASON
- Boteler paced the Blue Hose throughout the 2022-23 season with a team-best 76.9 scoring average and four top 15 finishes highlighted by a runner-up showing at the Bright's Creek Intercollegiate. She finished with five rounds of even-par or better including a 69 (-2) at the Golfweek Fall Challenge.
- Polakova garnered a pair of Freshman of the Week honors as she finished with a pair of top 10's on the year in her debut season. She tallied a pair of 71's and grabbed a season-high fourth place finish at the Bright's Creek that PC was victorious in.
- Shchepteva made an instant impact during the spring season with a pair of top 15s in her four tournaments throughout the 2023 portion of the season. She posted a top 10 at the Bright's Creek and pulled down an even-par round in her debut event in Jacksonville.
- Carles enters the Championship after posting her season-best of 74 in the final round of the Sea Best Intercollegiate in Jacksonville. She also tallied a tie for 15th in the Bright's Creek event that PC was victorious in as a team.
- In her debut season, Reaves posted a career-low 74 during the Elon Invitational while matching her teammate Carles with a season-best tie for 15th at Bright's Creek.
 
BLUE HOSE CLAIM TITLE AT BRIGHT'S CREEK INTERCOLLEGIATE
– The Presbyterian College women's golf team held off a late-charging Evansville to earn the team title on Sunday at the Bright's Creek Intercollegiate. Neza Siftar of Gardner-Webb earned the individual title with a total score of 221 (+5) over the 54 holes. 
- Sunday's team title marks the first win for the Blue Hose in a tournament since PC took home the Lady Falcon Invitational during the 2008-09 season.

SHCHEPTEVA RECORDS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HONORS
- Presbyterian College women's golf freshman Alina Shchepteva (Prague, Czech Republic) has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week following her tie for 13th place finish at the Low Country Intercollegiate last weekend. Shchepteva becomes the second Blue Hose freshman to earn the honor this season as teammate Mariana Polakova has garnered two honors this season.
- On the season, Shchepteva has tallied a pair of top 15 in her first three college tournaments including a best of tie for ninth at the Bright's Creek Intercollegiate.

2022-23 TEAM
- The Blue Hose roster features three additions under fourth-year head coach Anne Marie Covar. Covar returns Kelli Kraugh (Estero, Fla.), Sarah Boteler (Greenville, S.C.), Sofia Carles (Clinton, S.C.) and Lextyn Petz (Columbia, S.C.).
- PC has added Mariana Polakova (Brno, Czech Republic) and Taylor Reaves (Conway, S.C.) to the roster for the 2022-23 season. In the winter, Covar added Alina Shchepteva (Prague, Czech Repbulic) to the roster as she begins her collegiate career this spring.
