GREENWOOD, S.C. – Sophomore Sarah Boteler matched her career-low with a 69 along with freshman Alina Shchepteva posting a career-low of 70 as the Presbyterian College women's golf team finished seventh in the 2023 Big South Championship with a three-round total of 938 as PC carded a 298 on Friday. Campbell finished on top in the stroke-paly portion of the event, carding a 290 in the third round to finish with a 906 total. Joining Campbell in the match-play portion of the event are High Point (911), Gardner-Webb (916), and Charleston Southern (921). High Point's Sarah Kahn shot one-under-par 71 to capture the medalist honors with a three-round score of 217. The semifinal matches tee off on Saturday morning, with the winners meeting in the afternoon for the Big South Championship and the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA Regionals.
FINAL ROUND RESULTS
- Boteler carded a three-under score of 69 on Friday which was highlighted by four birdies and an eagle along with 10 pars. She poured in three birdies in her first five holes to get to two-under early on in the round before a strong finish of eagle, and birdie to finish at 69. She finished the tournament tied for 18th with a cumulative score of 232.
- Shchepteva finished her freshman campaign strong with a two-under round of 70 as she recorded five birdies along with 10 pars. She posted a level par round on the first nine before three birdies in a four-hole stretch on her second nine pushed her to a 70 (-2). She finished a team-best tied for 12th with a score of 229.
- Mariana Polakova finished with a final round of 79 as the freshman tallied a pair of birdies along with seven pars. She recorded her birdies on the fourth and seventh holes. She finished in a tie for 29th with a cumulative score of 238.
- Freshman Taylor Reaves finished her debut season with an 80 on Friday as she poured in 11 pars including seven straight on her first nine holes. Reaves finished 34th with a final score of 241.
- Sofia Carles rounded it out for PC with an 86 on Friday as she grabbed a birdie on the par-three 13th hole. Carles also tallied eight pars on her scorecard. She finished 38th overall with a final score of 248.
NOTABLES
- PC posted a final round score of 298 marking the best final round score for the Blue Hose in a Big South Championship since 2017 when PC carded a 295.
- Friday's result is also Presbyterian's best finish in a Big South tournament since 2019 when the Blue Hose placed in a tie for fourth.
- Boteler carded her second career 69 on Friday and the first for the sophomore since the final round of the season-opening Golfweek Fall Challenge that saw the Greenville, S.C. native finish with a 69 as well.
- Shchepteva finished her season with a season-best 70 improving on her previous low of 72 that she posted at the Sea Best Intercollegiate earlier this spring.
- Boteler & Shchepteva are the first Blue Hose pair to go under par in the same round since 2016 when Celia Mansour (69) and Abby Driscoll (70) went under par in the opening round of the CSU Fall Invitational.
- Shchepteva (T12) and Boteler (T18) are the best finishes for PC in the Big South Championship since 2019 when Maiken Bing Paulsen finished seventh.
- Boteler was one of only three players in the championship to record an eagle this week. She also finished tied for fourth in birdies with seven throughout the event.
