NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The Presbyterian College lacrosse team was again well-represented on the scholarly side of postseason honors, as four Blue Hose players were selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday afternoon.
Altogether, 96 different institutions were represented by today's IWLCA academic list, calculating 941 student-athletes overall. In order to be considered for the final tally, one must have earned a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale while also being of at least junior standing.
Kendall Goldfarb,
Tayler Hofmeister,
Taryn Tomas, and
Sophie Sullinger all fit the bill for these qualifications, four PC seniors who all hit a 3.8 GPA or higher and helped head coach
Eric Clakeley gather the highest win percentage in school history this past spring.
Repeating her IWLCA Academic Honor Roll mention from 2022, Goldfarb completed an exemplary collegiate career in the classroom by maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade-point average with a major in Early Childhood Education. The reigning Big South Scholar Athlete of the Year, Kendall was chosen as the conference's lacrosse representative of the George A. Christenberry Award for academic excellence in May, given to only one female student-athlete in each sport league-wide who attained the highest GPA possible. A captain on the PC defense next to Tomas, Goldfarb tied for the highest mark on the roster in '23 with 29 groundball pickups while also leading the way in forced turnovers (16). Kendall finished her playing career with 37 consecutive starts dating back to 2021 and landed a spot on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll each season as a Blue Hose.
Hofmeister gained six starting nods over her last go-round in Clinton that came along with a career-most 15 total appearances. She would post either a score or assist in three of Presbyterian's wins on the semester, including a helper in a one-goal triumph at Delaware State (Feb. 22) and a third-quarter strike during a 10-9 victory at Akron (March 14). Tayler put the finishing touches on her PC tenure by rifling her fifth career goal in the season-finale against Furman. She achieved a 3.82 GPA on a Business Administration major with concentrations in Accounting and Management, not to mention a minor in Political Science.
Publishing a 3.90 grade-point average over her last season in Clinton, Tomas continually battled through injury as a senior and started all 17 bouts regardless. Ranking second on the club with 27 groundball scoops as an anchor for the Blue Hose back line, she disrupted the opposing offense 10 times for a takeaway and recorded a season-best five groundballs against eventual league champion Mercer (April 26). Majoring in Political Science, Taryn is a native of Acworth, Georgia and earned a nod to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll for the second year in a row.
Sullinger rounds out Presbyterian's Honor Roll quartet, a midfielder who definitively carved her spot on the list thanks to a flawless GPA of 4.0 on a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in English. Included among her daunting classwork schedule was a concentration in Creative Writing, a recipient of departmental honors for all three areas of her impressive studies. On the field, Sophie put together an .800 shot-on-goal ratio while appearing in 13 contests, launching her seventh career strike against High Point (April 15) and pushing in her second assist of the season in PC's last home matchup of the calendar versus Furman.
