Smith and Liriano Join Blue Hose Baseball Pitching Staff

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College Blue Hose baseball coach Elton Pollock announces the additions of Director of Pitching Development and Technology Darrion Smith and Pitching Coach Bryan Liriano-Hernandez.

COACH POLLOCK'S THOUGHTS
"I am extremely excited about the addition of both Bryan Liriano-Hernandez and Darrion Smith to our coaching staff. Both are men of tremendous integrity and have a true passion for teaching the game. They will not only develop our players physically, but mentally and spiritually as well. Their work ethic and energy have made an immediate impact on our pitching staff, and I look forward to watching our staff flourish in the days ahead."

DARRION SMITH - DIRECTOR OF PITCHING DEVELOPMENT AND TECHNOLOGY
Smith joins the Presbyterian College coaching staff after spending two seasons as an assistant pitching coach at Xavier University of Louisiana, where he played a key role in developing the team's pitching talent.

Prior to his time at Xavier, Smith served as an assistant pitching coach at Georgetown University while completing his master's degree.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Smith is the founder of Smith's Baseball Academy, an initiative focused on improving the on-field skills of young athletes while also fostering their interpersonal and professional development. The academy aims to prepare athletes for success both in sports and in life.

Smith holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Lincoln Christian University and later earned his master's degree in Sports Industry Management from Georgetown University.

BRYAN LIRIANO-HERNANDEZ - PITCHING COACH
Liriano returns to the Presbyterian College Blue Hose baseball program after a successful tenure at George Washington University. Initially joining the Revolutionaries as a volunteer assistant coach, Liriano's talent and dedication quickly earned him a promotion to full-time assistant coach prior to the 2024 season.

During his time with George Washington, Liriano made a significant impact. He was responsible for overseeing the outfielders while also assisting with the pitching staff. Under his guidance, the team surpassed the 30-win mark for the first time since 2019 and made its first appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship since 2018.

Before his accomplishments at George Washington, Liriano served as the Director of Baseball Operations at Presbyterian College. Working closely with Coach Pollock, he was instrumental in coordinating team activities and played a key role in the team's scouting process.

Liriano is a Newberry College graduate, where he excelled as a right-handed pitcher for the Wolves. His experience on the mound has shaped his approach to coaching, providing him with a deep understanding of the game from a player's perspective.

In addition to his time at Newberry, Liriano has amassed valuable coaching experience with the Michigan Monarchs of the Great Lakes Collegiate League and Florida Southwestern State College.
