Women’s Wrestling Defeats Fifth Top-10 Opponent This Year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Presbyterian College women's wrestling team closed their dual schedule on Friday night by notching their 18th overall win of the season, their eighth victory over a nationally-ranked school, and their fifth W over a top-10 foe as they tripped up Lehigh by a 26-19 count.

Two-time All-American Maddie Kubicki gave PC the lead for good with just two matches left, while fifth-ranked May Cuyler put the match to sleep with a 71-second fall.

It was a hotly-contested battle in the cold northeast, as eight of the nine non-forfeited matches featured at least one wrestler in the national top 20.

The Blue Hose will approach their last tournament of the regular season next weekend with a phenomenal 18-3 record in dual events. They are 14-1 since December 17 as they look to win a second straight Southeast Region Championship and finish in the national top 10 for the fourth consecutive year.

NOTABLES

- Lehigh entered Friday's affair with just one loss on their resume, occurring against the #1 Iowa Hawkeyes. PC put a second L on that list with numerous clutch moments that prevented the Mountain Hawks from gaining any sizable distance.

- Among the four lead changes, #7 Kassey Daugherty gave Presby a much-needed result with a 10-0 technical over Shannon Govern. That increases her personal record to 27-3 this season, continuing what is now a 22-match winning streak.

- Daugherty also leads the Blue Hose roster with 19 tech's as a sophomore, setting the stage for Kubicki to get a 10-0 TF of her own two matches later.

- That was career win number 70 for Kubicki, who earned a gold medal at the Grand Prix De France just a couple weeks ago.

- Alyssa Mahan (who took a silver prize at the same event) was also a winner on Friday, grinding out a 4-2 decision.
