CORALVILLE, Iowa – For the second consecutive season, the Presbyterian College women's wrestling team has earned six All-American honors after being one of just four schools to qualify every weight class to the inaugural NCAA Championships.
PC took 5
th overall in Iowa, which is simultaneously the program's fourth consecutive top-ten placement at Nationals and a new school record.
On Saturday afternoon, the Blue Hose competed mostly on the consolation side of the bracket and achieved their highest finish from junior 145-pounder
Maddie Kubicki who took home 4
th.
She has now finished in the nationwide top six for all three of her collegiate campaigns, becoming the first PC wrestler in history to be a three-time All-American.
Sophomore
May Cuyler (160) took down 13
th-ranked Love Daley of Sacred Heart to place 5
th in her bracket, one step up from her 6
th-place standing last spring to become a two-time All-American.
Maria Aiono also finished on a positive note over an opponent from SHU, defeating seventh-seeded Josephine Larson in class 207 to grab a 7
th-place nod.
NOTABLES
- Freshman
Jenna Anderson (117) did not shy from the bright lights of Nationals over the weekend, winning over #6 Abigail Cooper (who represented Lehigh) to eventually end in 6
th place.
- Presbyterian now has four multi-time All-Americans on their roster, as 124-pounder
Alyssa Mahan also joined in on the action by finishing in 8
th.
- After leading the country in dual win percentage with an 18-3 regular season record, the Blue Hose and two-time Region Coach of the Year
Brian Vutianitis have laid down another building block to what is one of the most consistent programs in the sport.
- Kubicki and Cuyler (who were PC's two highest placers this season) combined for a 46-11 record since the slate started back in November. They've won 127 total matches in five combined seasons donning the Blue Hose colors.
