Anderson Named Inaugural NCAA Region III Rookie of the Year

MANHEIM, Pa. – Capping off a season where the Presbyterian College women's wrestling team achieved their highest-ever national finish by coming in 5th place, freshman Jenna Anderson was announced as the inaugural NCAA Region III Rookie of the Year.

The Blue Hose took the Southeast Region team championship for the second consecutive time, becoming one of four schools to qualify all 10 weight classes to Nationals in the first season that women's wrestling was governed by the NCAA.

Anderson was one of PC's most exciting performers, ranking second on the roster with 27 total victories and coming in 6th place at the National Championship tournament.

Head coach Brian Vutianitis has built a Blue Hose dynasty in his three seasons, named the Region III Coach of the Year in back-to-back campaigns and leading the Scotsmen to an 18-3 dual record over the winter.

A+ ANDERSON

- A native of Moseley, Virginia, Anderson stepped into the starting role in class 117 from the beginning of the season back in November.

- She had her hand raised in 10 of her first 12 appearances as Presbyterian remained the Region frontrunner for the majority of the year. Six of those ten W's occurred by either pin or technical fall.

- After suffering a mid-season injury that could've threatened her postseason availability, Anderson made a speedy recovery to win nine of her last 10 regular season bouts.

- That led to her taking 2nd place at the Region bracket and qualifying for the NCAA's in her first opportunity.

- She was seeded #16 in her weight group, advancing to the second day of Nationals with two straight upsets over the 8th and 7th-ranked wrestlers by 8-4 standard decision and 12-1 tech.

- Anderson cemented her All-American status with a five-minute pin over #6 Abigail Cooper (Lehigh) in the second day of Nationals, putting her at 6th place which was 10 spots above her original seed.

- Overall, Jenna finished a fine freshman year with 12 pins and 11 technicals. She was one of nine PC wrestlers to win at least 20 total matches and one of six wrestlers on the squad to place at the National Championship tourney.
