Women’s Wrestling Advances Six to Second Day of Nationals; Dearwester in Final Four

CORALVILLE, Iowa – One of only four schools in the country to qualify all ten weight classes to the inaugural 2026 NCAA Women's Wrestling National Championship Tournament, Presbyterian College has six of those individuals still in the hunt after the opening day.

The Blue Hose – who have won back-to-back Southeast Region titles – had six All-Americans in 2025 and have the opportunity to equal that same number again this year under the NCAA banner. They finished 6th at Nationals last season as a unit.

Sophomore Chloe Dearwester has been on a revenge path after qualifying but not placing at Nationals when she was a rookie, getting to the semifinals as the number six seed thanks to a 50-second fall over the #11-ranked wrestler and a disqualification win over #3 Kaelani Shufeldt (North Central).

That means she is now only two victories away from becoming Presbyterian's first National Champion, as she will go up against second-ranked Sage Mortimer of Grand Valley State tomorrow afternoon.

Beside Dearwester in class 110, PC will be represented by Jenna Anderson (117), Alyssa Mahan (124), Maddie Kubicki (145), May Cuyler (160), and Maria Aiono (207) in the consolation quarterfinals on Saturday.

While not able to avoid elimination by the end of the day, 103-pounder Sloane Kruger has the distinction of being the first person to ever win a singular match at the NCAA Women's Wrestling Championships, beating #9 Madeline Gavares (Ursinus) in just 63 seconds.

NOTABLES

- Kubicki is in pursuit of her third consecutive All-American accolade after placing 6th at last year's event. Cuyler and Aiono both placed in the same number of their own weight classes in 2025, doing so as freshmen last time around.

- The Blue Hose combined for eight victories on Friday over an opponent with a single-digit seed, with Anderson in particular posting an impressive run after an initial defeat to McKendree's Yu Sakamoto who ranks 1st in the nation.

- Anderson responded with back-to-back wins over number eight and number seven to remain in the field. Cuyler and Kubicki both picked up a pin in the consolation round, while Mahan and Aiono advanced via technical fall.
