Women’s Wrestling Aims for Second Straight Southeast Region Title

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Presbyterian College women's wrestling team will look to repeat their historic Southeast Region Championship victory from last year as they return to the postseason with another 1st-place accolade on their minds.

Now that women's wrestling is a fully-fledged NCAA sport, schools are allowed to enter just one competitor per weight class in this event. Another added wrinkle is the fact that the Regional Championships are a two-day event as opposed to a single day under the previous governing body.

The first and second rounds of the winner's and loser's brackets will be held tomorrow at Emmanuel University, with the action starting at 11:00 AM on both days.

PC is poised for a fourth consecutive national top-ten finish after winning the Region title last time around and claiming six All-Americans. Those that place in the top four at the Region tournament will advance to Nationals in March.

Brian Vutianitis was named the Southeast Region Coach of the Year after the Blue Hose took home gold at this event in 2025. Eight of their 10 competing wrestlers already have Regional experience in their back pocket.

REGION ROUNDUP

- Seventeen other institutions will be in the mix along with the Blue Hose, including the host Emmanuel who clocks in at #10 in the latest NWCA poll.

- PC and King, traditionally the two most dominant programs in this region, are currently tied with each other for the #5 spot in the NWCA rankings.

- The Tornado defeated Presby in Templeton back in November, but the Scotsmen returned the favor at the NWCA National Duals tournament last month, beating them in a 23-22 thriller.

- Presbyterian's triumph at Regionals last year ended a lengthy streak for King at this event. Giangeruso defeated her teammate Paige Wehrmeister for the 138-lb. title, while Cuyler seized the 160-lb. trophy with a 10-0 technical over Emmanuel's Kendra Heroch.

- PC will have to deal with a combination of Allen, Bluefield State, Delaware State, Emmanuel, Emory & Henry, Frostburg State, Greensboro, Huntingdon, King, Lincoln Memorial, Marymount, McDaniel, Mount Olive, Newberry, Randolph, Southern Virginia, and Waynesburg.

2026 HIGHLIGHTS

- A mainstay in the national top-ten since the season started in November, the Blue Hose assembled a fantastic record in dual play. They defeated 18 of the 21 schools that they squared off with throughout the winter.

- PC set a new school record by winning nine consecutive duals, all away from home. They are 14-1 since December 17, finishing the dual slate by edging out #9 Lehigh by seven points in Pennsylvania.

- Five top-ten opponents have fallen to the Blue Hose this season (eight schools in the top 25 overall). They have also claimed 11 individual tournament championships and 10 other 2nd-place nods.
