CLINTON, S.C. ? Presbyterian College fell 4-2 to UNC Asheville on Sunday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex in the rubber match between the two teams.
After the season-opening series for both teams, PC is now 1-2 on the year, while UNC Asheville is 2-1.
Casey Carlson (Lexington, S.C.) and Nate Horton (Spartanburg, S.C.) led the Blue Hose in the contest. Both were 2-for-4 at the plate on the day. Carlson scored one run, while Horton picked up one of two PC RBIs on the day.
Four UNCA batters finished with multiple hits, including Reed Kreiser, who was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Bulldogs.
Catlin Carter was 2-for-4 in the contest, while Elliott Arrington and Danny Baatz were both 2-for-5 from the plate. Arrington scored one run.
The Bulldogs scored the game's first run in the top of the second inning. They then extended that lead to 2-0 in the top of the fifth when Kreiser singled in Kevin Wiedenbacher.
PC responded in the bottom half of the frame by scoring their first run when Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) singled in Jesse Harmon (Newberry, S.C.) to make the score 2-1 in favor of UNCA. Harmon had led off the inning for PC by doubling to left centerfield.
The Bulldogs tacked on more in the top of the seventh inning, but PC responded once again by pulling back to within one run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Horton singled in the run.
UNC Asheville added the game's final run in the top of the ninth to tally the 4-2 victory.
UNCA starting hurler Michael Bogaert pitched six innings of five-hit baseball to pick up his first victory of the young season. Bogart struck out nine PC batters. PC's Daniel Hill (Matthews, N.C.) dropped to 0-1 on the year with the loss. He fanned five UNC Asheville batters in his five innings of work.
UNC Asheville's Justin Schumer earned UNCA's first save of the season by pitching the final two innings and allowing PC only one hit.
The Blue Hose next welcome Charlotte to the PC Baseball Complex for a 1 p.m. game on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
