Horton Continues Torrid Start In Yale Loss

CLINTON, S.C. ? Presbyterian College dropped a 7-3 decision to Yale University on Tuesday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.

 

The loss dropped PC to 5-10 overall this season, while Yale moved to 5-10 with the victory.

 

Nate Horton (Spartanburg, S.C.) led the Blue Hose at the plate, going a career-best 4-for-5 with one RBI. Horton has now finished a contest with multiple hits a team-best seven times in the 2008 season. He has hit safely in four consecutive games.

Robbie Anders (Greenville, S.C.) also finished with multiple hits by going 2-for-4 on the afternoon.

 

PC finished the game with 11 hits, while Yale had nine in the contest.

 

PC notched its first runs of the game in the third inning when Zac Rhinesmith (Acworth, Ga.) drew a two-out walk to extend the inning. Jesse Harmon (Newberry, S.C.) then started a string of four consecutive singles, which included Cory Lyda's (Simpsonville, S.C.) RBI single to right field that knotted the game at 1-1.

 

With the bases loaded Horton singled past Bulldog second baseman P.J. Gorynski to give the Blue Hose a 2-1 advantage.

 

Rhinesmith brought home the third PC run in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice, scoring Jared Combs (Pooler, Ga.) from third base.

 

PC held the Bulldogs scoreless into the sixth inning when three walks loaded the bases for designated hitter Trygg Larsson-Danforth, who responded with a single to right field and then moved to third on an error. The play cleared the bases for a 4-3 Yale lead.

 

The inning continued with a single by Jake Doyle that scored Larsson-Danforth for a 5-3 Yale lead.

 

Yale tacked on their final two runs in the ninth with RBIs by Gorynski and Doyle for the 7-3 final.

 

Vinny Lally (1-1) earned the victory for Yale after completing one and two-thirds on the hill. He allowed two hits, one walk and struck out one PC batter.

 

Ben Dollar (Gaffney, S.C.) moved to 1-1 on the year after completing seven innings for PC on the mound. He allowed six hits, four earned runs and fanned five Bulldog batters.

 

The two teams complete the series on Thursday, March 20 with a 2 p.m. game at the PC Baseball Complex.
