JACKSONVILLE, Fla. ? Presbyterian College's Drew Wingo finished with four runs scored in PC's narrow 12-10 loss to North Florida on Tuesday evening at Harmon Stadium.
The Blue Hose dropped to 4-4 on the year with the loss, while North Florida improved to 4-3 on the season with the win.
Wingo (Simpsonville, S.C.) was a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate and had an RBI in addition to the four runs scored.
He was one of five Blue Hose to record multiple hits in the loss. Jesse Harmon (Newberry, S.C.) was 2-for-4 from the dish, while designated hitter Nate Horton (Spartanburg, S.C.) was 2-for-4 from the plate with two RBIs and one run scored. Harmon has now hit safely in all eight PC games this season.
Steven Henry (Hoschton, Ga.) was 2-for-5 at the plate in the game, collecting two RBIs and scoring one run. Robbie Anders (Greenville, S.C.) was 2-for-3 from the plate with one RBI and one run scored.
The Blue Hose allowed the Ospreys to take a 6-1 lead in the first four innings. PC would then cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth with two runs.
Jared Combs (Pooler, Ga.) got things going for the Blue Hose in the top of the fifth inning when he doubled to right field. He then scored a couple batters later on a Wingo single, who would then score himself when Anders sacrificed to right field to allow him to come home.
PC looked as if it had the momentum, but North Florida changed the complexion of the contest dramatically in the bottom of the sixth inning when they scored five runs to take an 11-3 lead.
The Blue Hose would react accordingly in their next at-bat, scoring five runs of their own to cut the lead to three again at 11-8.
Wingo scored the first run of the top of the seventh when he scored on a wild pitch. The next four runs would come via Horton and Henry. Horton singled to center field to bring in the second and third runs of the inning.
Henry then hit his second home run of the 2008 season to left field to bring in PC's final two runs of the inning.
PC was able to hold North Florida scoreless in the bottom of the seventh. They would cut the lead to one in their next at-bat.
Both of PC's runs in the top of the eighth came with two outs. The Blue Hose obtained their first runner on the bases in Wingo when he walked. Harmon would then single to place runners on first and second.
Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) then doubled to right field to bring in both runners and set the score at 11-10 in favor of North Florida.
PC's seven runs in the final three innings would not be enough in the end. North Florida scored once more in the bottom of the eighth to set the final score at 12-10.
The Blue Hose and Ospreys continue their two-game series at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5 at Harmon Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
