Three Finish With Two Hits

CLINTON, S.C.- Presbyterian College's Kyle Craven, Jared Combs and Zac Rhinesmith combined for six hits in PC's 7-5 loss to visiting Savannah State on Saturday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.

The Blue Hose now stand at 8-22 on the season, while Savannah State improved to 17-13 overall on the year with the win.

Craven (Savannah, Ga.) was 2-for-4 from the plate in the game. He finished with a double and one RBI.

Combs (Pooler,
Ga.) connected on two hits in the game, including hitting for a double down the left field line in the eighth inning.

Rhinesmith (Acworth, Ga.) rounded out multi-hit batters for PC in the contest by going 2-for-4 on the afternoon.

PC finished with nine total hits in the contest, including one by Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.). Lyda has now hit safely in 11 consecutive games for PC in the 2008 season. The 11-game hitting streak ties him with Jesse Harmon (Newberry, S.C.) for the team season-high.

Savannah State had four batters with two hits in the contest. Mathew Oglesby led the way for the Tigers, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Santos Adames was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Tigers.

Savannah State opened scoring in the third inning courtesy of five straight singles that gave them a 5-0 lead. PC rallied in the home half of the third when Craven doubled down the left field line to score Rhinesmith from third base.

Steven Henry (Hoschton, Ga.) scored the second PC run in the fourth inning on a single by Rhinesmith that cut the lead to 5-2.

Trailing 7-3 heading into the ninth, the Blue Hose rally in the bottom of the frame came up just short. Still, PC was able to place two runs on the board.

The first came when Lyda trotted home on a fielder's choice by Horton. Horton scored the final PC run on the day on an error by Adames.

PC completes its three-game series with Savannah State on Sunday, April 13 with a doubleheader at the PC Baseball Complex. The games in the twinbill will both be seven innings. The first game is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.

Sunday will be Senior Day at the PC Baseball Complex. The Blue Hose coaching staff will honor their eight seniors and two redshirt juniors.
