Senior Day To Remember

CLINTON, S.C.- Presbyterian College completed its three-game weekend series with visiting Savannah State by winning both games of Sunday's doubleheader at the PC Baseball Complex. The Blue Hose easily won both games, taking game one by the score of 18-8 before finishing off game two with a 12-5 victory.

PC now has two series victories at home in the 2008 season. They also took two of three from Marist at the PC Baseball Complex the first weekend of March. The two Blue Hose wins on Sunday improved the team to 10-22 overall. The two losses dropped Savannah State to 17-15 on the year.

The Blue Hose had four home runs in the two games.

Just one inning prior, Jared Combs (Pooler, Ga.) lifted a two-run home run over the left centerfield wall to help lead PC to a four-run bottom of the first inning in game one.  It was the fourth home run of the year for Combs.

Seniors Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.) and William Bolchoz (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) hit late inning two-run dingers in the second game to lead the Blue Hose to the dominating victory. The home run was the first of the year for Craven, while Bolchoz tied Combs for the overall team-lead with four.

The Blue Hose lineup was led behind the performances of five batters. Wingo led the way, driving in six runs and scoring two runs.

Combs was a combined 3-for-6 in the two contests, accounting for five RBIs and four runs. Bolchoz drove in five Blue Hose baserunners, going 4-for-8 from the plate against the Tigers on Sunday.

During the 13-game hitting streak, Lyda is hitting .400 (20-of-50) with five RBIs, 10 runs and seven extra-base hits. Six of the seven extra-base knocks are doubles.

PC infielder Robert Anders (Greenville, S.C.) rounded out the top PC hitters on Sunday. Anders ended his efforts in the two games by going a combined 4-for-9. He scored five runs.

On the mound, Andrew Cockerham (Millers Creek, N.C.) earned his first victory of the season in game one. Cockerham pitched four innings of relief in the contest, allowing three hits, one run and two walks. He fanned three SSU batters.

Senior Eric Tatum (Buford, Ga.) followed Ben Dollar (Gaffney, S.C.) on the mound in game two for the victory. The two seniors combined to allow eight hits, four earned runs and two walks. They fanned five Savannah State batters.

PC scored 10 of its 18 runs in the first game with the bases loaded.
