BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. ? Cory Lyda extended his hitting streak to 14 games in PC's 6-1 loss to Gardner-Webb on Tuesday evening at Varsity Field.
Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) was one of five Blue Hose batters to finish the game with the Runnin' Bulldogs with one hit. Lyda overall was 1-for-3 in the contest with his one hit coming on his 13th double of the 2008 campaign.
Lyda's 14-game hitting streak is his personal best and PC's team season-high. The 14-game hitting streak is also one off of the best hitting streak in Coach Elton Pollock's four years in charge of the Blue Hose baseball program. Matt Bodie hit in 15 consecutive games in Pollock's first season at the helm of the program in 2005.
Lyda was not the only Blue Hose to tally an extra-base hit in the loss to Gardner-Webb on Tuesday. Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.) acquired his seventh double of the year in the game.
No player on either team secured multiple hits in the game.
The Blue Hose netted their only run in the game in the top of the first inning. Craven scored the run for the Blue Hose (10-23) in the frame, giving PC an early 1-0 advantage.
The Runnin' Bulldogs responded in the bottom half of the first inning, scoring three runs. They would then score one in the sixth and two in the seventh to earn the 6-1 victory.
The Blue Hose return home on Wednesday to face off against Wofford at the PC Baseball Complex. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
