CLINTON, S.C. - Junior Cory Lyda extended his hitting streak to 15 games in a 10-2 loss to visiting Wofford College at the PC Baseball Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) was one of three players at the top of the PC lineup to collect a hit, going 1-for-2 against the Terriers on Wednesday. Lyda's 15-game hitting streak is the PC team season-high. It ties him with Matt Bodie (Aiken, S.C.) for the longest hitting streak in Elton Pollock's four years as the head mentor of the Blue Hose.
Bodie hit safely in 15 consecutive games in Pollock's first season at the helm of the program in 2005.
PC sophomore Robert Anders (Greenville, S.C.) hit a double in a 1-for-3, one RBI performance. Jared Combs (Pooler, Ga.) got the only other extra-base hit in the contest for the Blue Hose with a double. Combs went 1-for-4 from the plate to round out the top four batters in the order.
The Blue Hose scored their first run in the opening frame when Lyda came home on a groundout to second base.
The second PC run came in the third inning when Anders doubled to left field to score Zac Rhinesmith (Acworth, Ga.) from second base.
PC pitchers Zach Snipes (Belton, S.C.), Micah Black (Iva, S.C.), Jim Wagers (Blackstock, Ga.) and Mitchell Odom (Oconee, Ga.) combined to strike out 10 Wofford batters in the game.
The Terriers were led offensively by the combination of leadoff hitter Sterling Dye and Adam Kearney. Dye hit safely in 3-of-4 plate appearances, while gathering four RBIs and a solo home run. Kearney was 2-for-5 with four RBIs and two home runs in the game.
PC begins a road weekend series with a doubleheader against Savannah State on Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m in Savannah, Ga. The Blue Hose took two of three from Savannah State last weekend.
The Blue Hose next return to the PC Baseball Complex on Tuesday, April 22 to face USC Upstate. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
