Henry Leads PC In Split On Saturday

SAVANNAH, Ga. ? Steven Henry finished with four hits on the day and the Presbyterian College baseball team split a doubleheader with Savannah State on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field. The Tigers took a 7-1 victory in game one, while the Blue Hose tallied a 6-3 victory over Savannah State in the second game.

 

The Blue Hose are now 11-25 on the year. Savannah State is 18-17 on the 2008 season with the split.

 

Game One

 

Henry (Hoschton, Ga.) led the Blue Hose offensive attack in the game one loss. Henry was 2-for-3 overall in the contest. He was the only PC batter with multiple hits in game one.

 

Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) could not collect a hit in the first game to end his team season-high 15-game hitting streak. 

 

David Washington and Matthew Oglesby both had two hits for Savannah State in game one. Oglesby was the top offensive threat for Savannah State in game one, going 2-for-3 from the dish with three RBIs. He had the only home run in the contest.

 

Washington was 2-for-4 in the game for the Tigers.

 

Ben Dollar (Gaffney, S.C.) took the loss from the hill for PC in game one, but he was able to strike out a game-high three batters in his four and two-thirds of an inning on the mound for PC.

 

The Blue Hose plated their only run in the game in the top of the first inning.

 

Game Two

 

The Blue Hose scored three runs in the top of the first inning in game two and never looked back en route to the 6-3 victory.

 

Jared Combs (Pooler, Ga.) picked up the three runs for PC in the first stanza when he hit a three-run home run. The home run was Combs' team-leading fifth of the year.

 

The home run scored Lyda, who had opened the game with a double down the right field line, and Casey Carlson (Lexington, S.C.).

 

The Tigers would score one run in the bottom of the first inning and another two in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 3-3.

 

PC would respond by scoring three more runs over the course of the game to take the win.

 

Robbie Anders (Greenville, S.C.) plated the eventual game-winning runs for PC in the top of the fourth when he singled to right centerfield to score Zac Rhinesmith (Acworth, Ga.) and Preston Simpson (Lancaster, S.C.). Both Rhinesmith and Simpson had singled to get on base.

 

Simpson scored again in the top of the sixth to net PC's final run of the game.

 

Henry once again finished 2-for-3 from the plate in game two to end his afternoon with a team-high four hits on Saturday.

 

Simpson was a perfect 2-for-2 in game two, scoring two runs.

 

Washington once again had two hits for Savannah State in game two to tie Henry for top honors on the day with four hits.

 

Jesse Harmon (Newberry, S.C.) acquired his first win from the mound on the year in game two for PC. Harmon hurled all seven innings for PC in game two and struck out six.

 

Next Up

 

The Blue Hose and Tigers close out their three-game set at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Tiger Field. The Blue Hose will be trying to take two of three from the Tigers for the second consecutive weekend in the contest.

 

PC swept a doubleheader from Savannah State last Sunday at the PC Baseball Complex to take two of three from the Tigers last weekend.
